Media
Center PCs
Tired of the clutter in your lounge? Fed
up of constantly switching between DVD players, videos, CD players
etc? Sick of seeing piles of video cassettes everywhere?
Meet the new Media Center PCs - designed
to be at the centre of your entertainment system.
What
can it do?
Here's a selection of the features of Media
Center PCs, but if you want more information, follow the link on the
right:
- Live TV - much like a Sky+ box, you can pause or rewind live TV.
No more missing goals when you nip to the toilet, and no more having
to cross your legs for the whole of the second half!
- Recording TV - you can record from Freeview channels, and can also
connect up to a cable or satellite box. What's more, you can start
watching a recording before it's finished recording (no more waiting
until the cassette can be rewound), and all your recordings sit on
the hard drive - no more cassettes! You can also watch one programme
while recording up to two others (subject to buying sufficient TV
cards). The number of recordings is limited by the size of your hard
drive(s), which can always be extended.
- Music - as with most PCs, you can load your entire CD collection,
and play your choice of music just by using the remote - no more
pulling CDs out of the drawer, scratching them, or having the kids
lose them!
- DVDs - a Media Center PC will have a DVD player built in - a separate
DVD player is another piece of kit that you can now do without!
- Photos - with a card reader or USB cable, you can copy all of your
digital photos onto the Media Center PC. From there, you can view
your photos straight onto your TV screen - no more gathering dust
in your cupboard!
Any
more questions?
How do I watch it?
You can either hook the Media Center PC up
to your existing TV, or for the clearest output, consider an LCD or
plasma screen.
How do I operate it?
Using the handy remote control, which will give you access to all
the functions of the Media Center PC.
What else can I do with it?
The Media Center PC is, at the end of the day, a PC! So, everything
that you can do with a normal PC can be done with a Media Center PC.
That includes playing games, using office software, and browsing the
internet. It's like a normal PC, but loads better!
For any more information, follow the link on the right, or just get
in touch - we'd be happy to help out!

Where
can I find out more?
If
you want to find out more about Media Center PCs, just click
here to
link to the Microsoft site.
Will
it really replace the video?
It's hard for us to tell you how you will use it - we
can only speak from our own experience, but since installing a Media
Center PC at home, we've never used the video. What's more, the DVD
player and the CD player have also gone!
And the best thing is, there are no more of those video
tapes floating around - you know how annoying they can be, especially
when you forgot to label them up, and can't remember what's on which
tape!
How
easy is it to use?
If you can get my son off the Media Center PC for long
enough to talk to him, he'll tell you that it's child's play. No-one
explained it to him - he just got on and figured it out.
You can too!
